Our client is looking for a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Outpatient Coding Auditor to review and analyze outpatient medical records to ensure accurate coding and billing. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of outpatient coding guidelines, regulations and compliance requirements. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with various departments to improve coding accuracy, optimize revenue and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Outpatient Coding Auditor Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of outpatient medical records to validate coding accuracy and compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM)
  • Identify coding errors, discrepancies and areas for improvement through detailed analysis and interpretation of medical documentation
  • Communicate audit findings and recommendations effectively to coding staff, physicians and other relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with coding team members to provide education and training on coding guidelines, documentation requirements and best practices
  • Assist in developing and implementing coding policies, procedures and quality assurance initiatives to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Stay informed about updates and changes to coding guidelines, regulations and reimbursement policies to ensure ongoing compliance and accuracy
  • Participate in coding audits, compliance reviews and other quality improvement activities as needed

Outpatient Coding Auditor Requirements:
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential required
  • 2+ years of experience in outpatient coding and auditing, with expertise in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Strong knowledge of outpatient coding guidelines, regulations and compliance requirements, particularly in specialties such as Cardiology, Critical Care, Pulmonary and/or Rheumatology
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to review and interpret complex medical documentation accurately
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide education and training
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated with a commitment to accuracy, integrity and continuous improvement
