Thermoform Maintenance Mechanic

Our client, a leading manufacturing company, is looking for a skilled Thermoform Maintenance Mechanic to support the reliability and performance of its manufacturing operations. This role will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving production and facility equipment, with a primary focus on thermoforming and other manufacturing machinery. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Thermoform Maintenance Mechanic will play a critical role in minimizing downtime, maintaining equipment reliability, and supporting safety, quality, and productivity goals. This is a steady, plant-based maintenance position working in an environment with a mix of established and older machinery.

Thermoform Maintenance Mechanic Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on thermoforming equipment, manufacturing machinery, and facility systems.

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and automated equipment issues.

• Respond to equipment breakdowns and production maintenance needs in a timely manner to minimize downtime.

• Diagnose equipment problems, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs and long-term solutions.

• Assist with machine changeovers, equipment setups, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.

• Inspect, test, and evaluate equipment performance to identify potential failures and recommend corrective actions.

• Repair or replace components including motors, bearings, belts, valves, pumps, sensors, and other mechanical and electrical components.

• Support the installation, modification, startup, and commissioning of new equipment and machinery.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventory documentation.

• Utilize hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, hoists, powered industrial vehicles, and other maintenance equipment as required.

• Partner with production, engineering, and quality teams to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and overall plant performance.

• Follow all safety, GMP, quality, and company policies and procedures.

Thermoform Maintenance Mechanic Requirements:

• 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, processing, packaging, or related environment.

• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.

• Experience troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and automated equipment.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.

• Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

• Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and work order systems.

• Basic computer skills with the ability to accurately document maintenance activities.

• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple assignments, and respond effectively to maintenance needs in a plant environment.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot older or established machinery.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical degree, vocational certification, or apprenticeship training in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electro-Mechanical Technology, Automation, or a related field.

• Experience with thermoforming equipment or other high-speed manufacturing machinery.

• PLC troubleshooting and electrical systems experience.

• Experience with HVAC, robotics, CNC equipment, or automated manufacturing systems.

• Experience using CMMS or ERP systems such as SAP PM.

• Prior experience in plastics, packaging, paper converting, consumer products, food manufacturing, or other high-speed production environments.

Work Environment:

• Steady, plant-based maintenance environment supporting ongoing manufacturing operations.

• Opportunity to work with a variety of established and older manufacturing equipment.

• Work involves troubleshooting equipment, performing scheduled maintenance, and responding to production needs.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift materials and equipment throughout the shift.

• Manufacturing environment may include varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, and other production-related conditions.

• Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and work at heights or in confined spaces when required.

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

This position is being added due to retirements and natural attrition within the maintenance organization. The role supports the plant’s ongoing need for experienced maintenance coverage and helps ensure reliable operation of manufacturing equipment. With an aging equipment base, having skilled maintenance personnel available to troubleshoot and repair machinery is critical to minimizing downtime and maintaining production.

Team & Management Structure:
The Thermoform Maintenance Mechanic will work as part of the plant maintenance team and report to the Maintenance Manager. The environment is hands-on and team-oriented, with maintenance personnel working closely with production and other plant functions to address equipment issues and maintain reliable operations. The role requires the ability to work independently while collaborating with the broader maintenance and production teams.
