Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to ensure the quality and reliability of components used in our plumbing products, including flushers, valves, and faucets. This role partners closely with suppliers and internal teams to drive continuous improvement, resolve quality issues, and ensure compliance with industry standards. The SQE will frequently travel to supplier and customer locations across the U.S. to perform audits, support product launches, and lead corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain supplier quality requirements and performance metrics
- Conduct on-site supplier audits (process, system, and product) and drive corrective actions
- Evaluate and approve new suppliers, including capability assessments and PPAP approvals
- Investigate supplier-related nonconformances and lead root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys)
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Procurement to ensure design for manufacturability and quality
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by validating supplier processes and components
- Monitor supplier performance (quality, delivery, cost) and lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Review and approve supplier control plans, FMEAs, and inspection methods
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ISO 9001, NSF/ANSI, ASME where applicable)
- Provide technical support to suppliers on materials, machining, casting, plating, and assembly processes
- Travel to customer sites as needed to support field quality issues and maintain strong relationships
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field)
- 3+ years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing, or quality engineering
- Experience with plumbing or fluid control products (valves, faucets, flush systems) strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of quality tools: PPAP, APQP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, 8D
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, injection molding, and surface finishing
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 60%
Preferred Skills:
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification
- Experience working with global or multi-site suppliers
- Knowledge of regulatory and industry standards relevant to plumbing products
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and quality management software
Work Environment:
- Combination of office, manufacturing floor, and supplier site environments
- Frequent travel to supplier and customer locations across the U.S.
- Hands-on involvement in inspections, testing, and process evaluations
