Senior Cash Application Specialist
Position Overview
The Senior Cash Application Specialist will support a high-volume cash application project focused on researching and resolving millions of dollars in unapplied cash. This individual will be responsible for accurately recording customer payments, researching discrepancies, resolving misapplied or short payments, and ensuring cash receipts are properly applied and balanced against the general ledger.

The ideal candidate has at least five years of hands-on cash application experience, strong analytical and research skills, advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and experience working within a large ERP system. This role requires someone who can work independently, navigate complex financial data, and manage daily priorities with a high level of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, process, and accurately apply daily cash receipts to customer accounts based on remittance information and customer instructions.

  • Investigate and resolve large volumes of unapplied cash, payment discrepancies, short payments, and misapplied cash.

  • Reconcile cash receipts and postings to ensure accurate daily balancing against the general ledger.

  • Conduct detailed account research to identify the root cause of discrepancies and determine appropriate resolutions.

  • Maintain, update, and analyze complex Excel reports daily, using PivotTables and lookup functions to organize and evaluate financial data.

  • Communicate with internal teams, including Collections, to resolve payment issues and respond to customer inquiries via email.

  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency.

  • Provide management with regular updates on progress, outstanding items, and resolution efforts.

  • Partner with Billing and Accounts Payable as needed and assist with additional projects and ad hoc tasks.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on cash application experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working with a large ERP system, such as NetSuite, Sage, SAP, or a comparable platform. 

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including PivotTables and lookup functions such as VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP. 

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently investigate and resolve complex payment discrepancies.

  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles and the relationship between cash receipts, customer accounts, and the general ledger.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail when working with large volumes of financial transactions.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while managing competing priorities and meeting daily deadlines.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to navigate multiple systems and maintain detailed records.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle Fusion.

  • Business-to-business (B2B) collections experience.

  • Experience using CashPro by Bank of America or other banking portals.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
