We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Inpatient Facility Coder with a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential to join our team. The Inpatient Facility Coder will be responsible for accurately assigning diagnostic and procedural codes for inpatient services in accordance with coding guidelines and regulatory requirements. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the revenue cycle process and ensure accurate reimbursement for services provided.

Inpatient Coder Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze inpatient medical records to accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes.
  • Ensure coding accuracy and completeness while adhering to official coding guidelines, conventions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical documentation improvement (CDI) specialists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to clarify documentation and obtain additional information as needed.
  • Query providers when documentation is unclear, inconsistent, or insufficient to support code assignment.
  • Resolve coding-related denials and discrepancies by conducting thorough research and analysis of medical records and coding guidelines.
  • Stay informed about updates and changes to coding guidelines, regulations, and reimbursement policies related to inpatient services.
  • Participate in coding audits, compliance reviews, and quality improvement initiatives as required.

Inpatient Coder Qualifications:

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in inpatient facility coding.
  • Thorough understanding of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems and guidelines.
  • Proficiency in using encoding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet productivity and quality standards.
