Our client, a well-established commercial real estate company, is seeking an experienced Senior Property Accountant to join their accounting team on a contract basis. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with a strong commercial real estate background who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has experience managing the full accounting cycle for a property portfolio.
The ideal candidate will have extensive property accounting experience, strong financial reporting skills, and hands-on experience with CAM reconciliations. Experience supporting retail properties is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of commercial properties
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Complete month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and analyze general ledger activity
- Prepare and review Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules and supporting documentation
- Work closely with property managers and operations teams to resolve accounting discrepancies
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Commercial real estate property accounting experience required
- Retail property accounting experience strongly preferred
- Extensive experience preparing CAM reconciliations
- Experience using Yardi, Yardi Voyager, or MRI property management/accounting software required
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
