Together, these tools support the broader insurance business by driving customer engagement and generating long term pet lifecycle data.
The Company’s work spans both web and platform, with the core platform being a shelter management software system used across the industry.
Team Structure
This role reports into Technology Leadership and leads a team including:

2 Engineering Managers

3 to 4 Software Engineers (direct reports), working in React and Node
-
Approximately 30 total engineers across the broader group
Core platforms supported:

A web based shelter management platform used by animal shelters and humane societies

A client server shelter management system, typically used by municipalities and larger organizations
-
The Company’s customer facing website and digital experience for pet education and services
-
A pet services platform, largely integrated into the Company website today, but still considered one of the four core products
Technology Environment
Current stack: C#, .NET, React, Node.js, TypeScript, SQL Server, and the broader Microsoft technology stack

Day to Day Responsibilities
This leader will own technology delivery across all Company platforms, including:

Engineering leadership and coaching

Software delivery and feature build

Technical roadmap and platform modernization

Technical debt management and code quality

Production support and system uptime

Customer satisfaction
-
Technology strategy and architecture partnership

Executive communication
The role has a global component, partnering with a counterpart in the UK on strategy, lead generation ideas, and high level solution discussions. This is a strong opportunity for someone who can drive impact through strategic, high level conversations, not just execution.
This leader will influence technology direction and will not be expected to code, though they will regularly be involved in high level technical discussions.
We’re looking for a technical engineering manager who came up through software engineering, genuinely loves the craft, and is equally passionate about developing great engineers.
Must Have Qualifications
Executive Presence Able to communicate confidently with executives while remaining approachable and hands on with engineering teams.
Strong Technical Foundation Grew their career through software engineering before moving into leadership. Technically credible with engineers and architects.
Engineering Leadership Experience leading software engineering organizations, not purely IT operations. Strong understanding of modern software development, architecture, technical debt, code quality, and engineering best practices.
Nice to Have
Comfortable moving fluidly between boardroom discussions and hands on engineering conversations.
Compensation

Base salary: $245,000 to $260,000

Eligibility for discretionary annual and long term incentive bonuses
