Our client is seeking a Retail Distribution Director to lead the overall performance of their approximately 1M+ square foot retail support center near Harrisburg, PA.  This role requires a highly visible, authentic distribution leader who can oversee a large, multi-shift operation, develop a strong leadership team, and drive continued improvement across service, productivity, inventory, safety, retention and expense metrics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the overall performance of a 1.1 million sq. ft. retail support center with approximately 450 employees and projected growth to 600 employees.
  • Lead through approximately 10-12 direct reports and multiple levels of management across a complex, multi-shift distribution operation.
  • Drive performance across service, productivity, inventory, safety, labor, expense and other key operational metrics.
  • Build, develop and retain a strong management team while evaluating organizational strengths and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence throughout the facility by regularly walking the floor, engaging directly with employees and understanding operational needs firsthand.
  • Strengthen employee retention, onboarding, training and development programs.
  • Improve communication, consistency and alignment across shifts, particularly between first and second shift.
  • Identify operational issues early and implement the structure, accountability and follow-through needed to address them.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with retailers supported by the facility.
  • Assess the existing leadership organization and make personnel decisions when necessary while preserving and developing high-performing leaders.

Requirements:
  • Proven experience leading a large-scale distribution center, warehouse or logistics operation with comparable workforce size, complexity and management responsibility.
  • Demonstrated success leading through multiple levels of management and developing supervisors and managers.
  • Strong people leadership skills with an authentic, visible and team-oriented leadership style.
  • Experience improving employee retention, engagement, onboarding and training within a large-scale operation.
  • Strong operational and financial acumen, with the ability to manage service, productivity, inventory, expense and other key performance metrics.
  • Sound organizational judgment and the ability to identify operational issues before they become larger problems.
  • Experience making difficult personnel decisions and assessing the strengths and weaknesses of an existing leadership organization.
  • Comfort working in a multi-shift environment and maintaining credibility with frontline employees.
  • Strong communication and executive presence with corporate leadership.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in retail is not required; comparable facility scale and operational complexity are more important than industry background.
  • Experience in Pennsylvania or the surrounding regional market is a plus, as is familiarity with the Central Pennsylvania talent market.
  • Bilingual capability is welcomed but not required.

Key Details
  • Compensation: $180,000 – $215,000 base salary
