LaSalle Network has partnered with a leading commercial real estate firm specializing in the development, acquisition and management of real estate across the country.  With a diverse portfolio spanning across various sectors including office, retail, hospitality and residential, our client is committed to delivering exceptional value to their clients and stakeholders. As they continue to expand their operations, our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join their dynamic team.

As the Controller, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial activities related to the region, which is inclusive of a flagship, ground up multi-use building. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and providing strategic financial guidance to support decision-making processes within the organization.

Controller Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for each property within the portfolio. Provide comprehensive reports to senior management and stakeholders regarding financial performance, variances and trends
  • Collaborate with property managers to develop annual budgets and forecasts for each property. Monitor actual performance against budgeted targets and provide insightful analysis to identify areas for improvement and optimization
  • Manage cash flow projections and ensure adequate liquidity to meet operational and capital expenditure requirements. Implement effective cash management strategies to optimize cash utilization and minimize financing costs
  • Oversee all aspects of property accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance and reconciliations. Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records in compliance with GAAP and industry standards
  • Establish and maintain robust internal control procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Conduct periodic audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls and implement corrective actions as necessary
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis and modeling to support investment decisions, lease negotiations and property valuations. Evaluate the financial impact of capital projects, renovations and leasing initiatives to optimize returns on investment
  • Serve as a key point of contact for investors, lenders, and other stakeholders regarding financial matters related to the properties. Provide timely and accurate financial information and address inquiries or concerns in a professional manner
  • Lead and mentor a team of property accountants and project analysts, providing guidance, support and professional development opportunities to ensure optimal performance and career growth within the department

Controller Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • CPA is required
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in property accounting or real estate finance, preferably within the commercial real estate industry
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards applicable to real estate entities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence decision-making processes
