The Hiring Hack Giving SMBs an Edge Over Enterprise Giants

Valentine’s

Amidst today’s competitive labor market and hiring challenges, small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) are constantly seeking innovative ways to attract and retain top talent. With enterprise organizations often able to offer larger salaries and more extensive benefits packages, SMBs must find alternative strategies to remain competitive.

One approach that has proven successful according to our latest research is offering hybrid work schedules, of which 83% of survey respondents stated they will continue to offer in 2025. In fact, according to a recent PwC survey, 70% of employees view hybrid work as essential, making flexibility no longer just a perk but a critical factor in job satisfaction.

While enterprise companies like Amazon and Disney have faced backlash for enforcing strict return-to-office mandates, SMBs can leverage hybrid work as a cost-effective way to differentiate themselves and attract talent.

Beyond hybrid work, SMBs can adopt additional strategies to stand out in the job market, including:
  • Foster a Strong Company Culture: Smaller organizations often have the advantage of being more agile and personal. Highlighting a culture of collaboration, inclusivity and recognition can make a significant impact on candidates.
  • Provide Unique Perks and Benefits: While SMBs may not match enterprise salaries, they can offer tailored benefits like flexible PTO policies, philanthropy and wellness programs or even equity opportunities.
  • Emphasize Impact and Purpose: Many employees today want to feel connected to their work. SMBs can showcase how their teams make a tangible difference, creating a more fulfilling work environment.

Staying Ahead in 2025

To compete with enterprise organizations, SMBs must focus on what they can uniquely offer. Hybrid work is just one piece of the puzzle, but when combined with a thoughtful approach to employee engagement, it can be a game-changer.
