Location + Travel: Position is remote with 30-50% US travel required, with the preference for this person to sit in the Eastern or Central time zone.
Position Overview:
The Director of Operational Excellence & Engineering is responsible for leading enterprise-wide initiatives focused on operational reliability, asset performance, continuous improvement, and regulatory compliance across multiple manufacturing locations. This role partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, EHS, and Leadership teams to drive safe, efficient, and reliable operations while supporting long-term business objectives.
The position provides strategic leadership for reliability programs, asset management systems, operational excellence initiatives, and technical governance while developing organizational capabilities and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Excellence

Develop and execute strategies that improve operational performance, reliability, asset utilization, and manufacturing efficiency across multiple facilities.

Establish and maintain standards, processes, and best practices for asset management, maintenance, and operational excellence programs.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction, and equipment reliability.

Partner with site leadership teams to strengthen operational discipline, problem-solving capabilities, and performance management systems.
Reliability & Integrity Programs

Provide technical leadership for equipment reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, inspection strategies, and asset lifecycle management.

Review equipment performance data, reliability trends, and failure analyses to identify improvement opportunities and mitigate operational risks.

Support development and optimization of maintenance strategies that improve equipment uptime and reduce total cost of ownership.

Ensure effective execution of risk assessments, audits, corrective actions, and asset integrity programs.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

Support compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and operational regulations and standards.

Provide guidance on process safety, equipment integrity, electrical safety, and risk management initiatives where applicable.

Lead or support investigations, audits, assessments, and corrective action programs to ensure sustainable compliance and operational performance.
Cross-Functional Leadership

Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Quality, and Capital Project teams to ensure alignment of technical standards and operational objectives.

Support capital projects through design reviews, risk assessments, commissioning activities, and long-term reliability planning.

Facilitate sharing of best practices, lessons learned, and technical expertise across multiple facilities.

Serve as a trusted advisor to site and corporate leadership teams on operational and reliability matters.
Systems & Financial Management

Oversee asset management and maintenance systems to ensure accurate equipment data, work management processes, and reporting capabilities.

Develop budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans supporting reliability and operational excellence initiatives.

Identify opportunities to improve performance while optimizing maintenance and operating costs.
Leadership & Talent Development

Lead, mentor, and develop technical professionals and subject matter experts.

Build organizational capability through coaching, training, and succession planning.

Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Travel
-
Travel approximately 30–50% to support multiple manufacturing locations, project activities, audits, and leadership engagements.
Qualifications:
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline.

10+ years of experience within manufacturing, industrial operations, engineering, maintenance, reliability, or operational excellence environments.

5+ years of leadership experience managing technical programs, projects, or teams.
-
Process Safety Management (PSM) experience required.

Experience with reliability, maintenance, asset management, continuous improvement, or operational excellence initiatives.

Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, equipment reliability, maintenance systems, and process improvement methodologies.

Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred
-
Master’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or related field.

Professional certifications related to reliability, maintenance, continuous improvement, project management, or operational excellence.

Experience supporting multiple manufacturing facilities or large-scale operations.
-
Knowledge of asset management, maintenance management, ERP, or CMMS systems.
-
Experience leading enterprise-wide operational improvement or reliability programs.
