LaSalle Network Explores Top Job Interview Trends

Chicago-Based Staffing and Recruiting Firm Conducts Survey on Job Interview Process

CHICAGO, April 22, 2015 – LaSalle Network, a staffing and recruiting firm headquartered in Chicago, surveyed about 1,600 people on the job interview process, and here were the key findings:

| Pre-interview Stress |

When asked if they got nervous before a job interview, respondents stated:

Yes, one day before – 65 percent

Yes, two days before – 11 percent

Yes, one week before – 5 percent

No – 19 percent

| Top Job Interview Fears |

When asked to select the top three aspects of the job interview process they feared most, respondents stated:

Saying the wrong thing – 58 percent

Making a bad first impression 43 percent

Uncertainty about what hiring managers are looking for – 41 percent

“Selling” myself – 35 percent

Arriving late 35 percent

Being underprepared – 28 percent

Underprepared – 26 percent

Over prepared – 14 percent

Perfectly prepared – 60 percent

| Time Spent Preparing |

When asked how much time on average they spent preparing for interviews, respondents stated:

0 to 1 hours – 20 percent

2 to 3 hours – 50 percent

4 to 5 hours – 18 percent

6+ hours – 10 percent

I don’t prepare – 2 percent

“Being nervous for a job interview is a result of being underprepared,” said Tom Gimbel, Founder & CEO of LaSalle Network. “Feeling ‘perfectly’ prepared isn’t enough. People study the statistics of their favorite sports teams…the coaches, wins vs. losses, competitors, ranks, etc. People need to take the same approach as they would studying a hobby when studying for their career. Nearly all fears listed in the study are preventable depending on how long a candidate prepares; however, 70 percent of respondents say they spend less than 3 hours. Preparation trumps nerves.”
