Our client is seeking a Transportation Manager to lead transportation strategy, manage third-party logistics (3PL) providers, and drive operational efficiency across its supply chain. This role will serve as the key connection between the business and its warehouse and transportation partners, balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution. The ideal candidate will bring strong logistics and transportation experience, a data-driven approach to performance management, and the leadership skills needed to develop teams, manage budgets, reduce costs, and deliver exceptional customer service.

Transportation Manager Responsibilities:

  • Lead transportation strategy and strategic initiatives to improve efficiency, service, and overall supply chain performance.
  • Manage the 3PL shipping team and freight vendors, serving as the primary point of contact between the business and its third-party warehouse and transportation providers.
  • Build strong relationships with internal logistics, customer service, Operations, Sales, Product, and Merchandising teams to ensure transportation activities align with business needs.
  • Develop and implement logistics processes and procedures that improve margins, reduce costs, and maintain high standards of efficiency, delivery, and customer service.
  • Oversee inbound and outbound capacity planning, shipping operations, drop-lot management, and customer transportation requirements.
  • Establish, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate transportation performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive measurable results.
  • Develop and manage the annual transportation budget and P&L, with a strong understanding of the financial drivers and cost impacts of site operations.
  • Lead cost-reduction initiatives and process improvement projects to enhance transportation efficiency and overall supply chain performance.
  • Develop and implement administrative procedures to ensure accurate documentation, effective data management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead, train, and develop the logistics team by fostering a positive work environment built on open communication, coaching, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to business unit budgeting, strategic planning, and long-term transportation initiatives.
  • Oversee existing logistics technology and support future system improvements and upgrades.
  • Establish continuous improvement processes that maintain quality standards while driving operational excellence and world-class customer service.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to employees, colleagues, and external partners while adapting departmental priorities to changing operational needs.

Transportation Manager Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain management, logistics planning, transportation, or operations.
  • Experience managing third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight vendors, or transportation operations.
  • Strong understanding of transportation planning, shipping operations, capacity management, and logistics processes.
  • Experience managing budgets, transportation costs, and financial performance, including P&L responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze KPIs, identify performance gaps, and implement process improvements that drive measurable results.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to train, develop, and motivate teams while fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments and with external partners.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic initiatives while managing day-to-day operational priorities.
  • APICS certification is a plus.

This is an opportunity for a transportation and logistics leader to make a meaningful impact on supply chain performance by shaping transportation strategy, strengthening 3PL partnerships, improving cost efficiency, and delivering a high level of customer service. The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking with hands-on leadership to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
