Our client is seeking an EHS Manager to lead health and safety initiatives at their manufacturing facility in Bangor, ME. This is a high-visibility leadership position responsible for providing strategic direction, ensuring regulatory compliance, strengthening safety culture, and partnering with plant leadership and employees to continuously improve safety performance.
The ideal candidate will be a confident, proactive safety leader who can effectively influence employees and leaders at all levels. This individual should be comfortable identifying risks, challenging existing practices, driving accountability, and implementing meaningful improvements across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:

Serve as a member of the plant leadership team and provide strategic direction on health and safety initiatives.

Develop, implement, and continuously improve plant safety programs, policies, procedures, and processes.

Lead initiatives designed to strengthen safety culture, employee engagement, and accountability.

Partner with Plant Leadership, Human Resources, Engineering, Operations, and other functional teams to identify and mitigate safety risks.

Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state OSHA requirements and other health and safety regulations.

Conduct safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

Identify root causes of incidents and develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Monitor safety performance metrics and KPIs and communicate results to plant and regional leadership.

Lead safety training and educational initiatives related to workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and safe work practices.

Coach and influence employees and leaders to improve safety behaviors and overall performance.

Maintain appropriate safety documentation, records, and regulatory reporting.

Partner with workers' compensation and other stakeholders on workplace injury and claims management.

Support emergency preparedness and response programs.

Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in safety processes and procedures.

Lead and develop the Health & Safety Coordinator while providing guidance and support to the broader organization.

Stay current on regulatory changes, industry trends, and safety best practices.
Requirements:

Approximately 7+ years of progressive health and safety experience.

Manufacturing experience strongly preferred.

Candidates with construction safety backgrounds may be considered if their experience is highly transferable to a manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable federal and state health and safety requirements.

Experience conducting safety audits, investigations, risk assessments, and corrective action initiatives.

Demonstrated ability to influence employees and leaders at all levels and drive behavioral and cultural change.

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Confident and proactive approach to safety leadership.

Ability to effectively communicate with both plant leadership and frontline employees.

Experience developing and implementing safety programs and training.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Bachelor's degree strongly preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

They should be comfortable holding employees and leadership accountable to safety standards, influencing without relying solely on authority, and partnering collaboratively across Operations, Engineering, HR, and other functions.
This individual should be people-focused and business-minded, understanding how a strong safety culture supports employee well-being, operational excellence, and overall business performance.
Compensation: $97,500-$130,000 annually, depending on experience + eligibility to earn a 15% target bonus
