Accounts Payable Specialist (Contract)
Location: Fully Remote (Ideally able to visit Chicago office once per month)
Employment Type: 3-month contract covering medical leave (potential for extension)
Compensation: Up to $27/hour

As an Accounts Payable Specialist, you’ll support the finance team during year-end and audit season while covering a temporary leave. You’ll handle high-volume AP processing, vendor communication, invoice review, and 1099 preparation with a focus on accuracy and timely execution. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, analytical accounting professional who is comfortable working remotely and thrives in dynamic settings.
What You’ll Do:
- Process high-volume Accounts Payable (~600 invoices/month)
- Review and enter vendor, contractor, and external coach invoices
- Manage the AP inbox and respond to vendor payment inquiries
- Follow up on missing, incorrect, or incomplete invoice documentation
- Assist with weekly and monthly payment processing in Certinia/FinancialForce
- Support 1099 preparation in January
- Help with prepaid expense allocations and basic accounting entries
- Provide support for year-end close and audit requests
- Complete accuracy checks, data entry, and light general accounting tasks
What You’ll Bring:
- Accounting degree strongly preferred
- Prior experience in Accounts Payable required
- Comfort handling high-volume invoice processing
- Intermediate Excel skills (PT/VLU) required
- Analytical mindset and ability to understand processes – not just perform data entry
- Experience working remotely and ramping quickly in new systems
- Ability to manage heavier workload during month-end and audit cycles
- Understanding of:
- Debits & credits
- Prepaid expense entries
- Invoice coding and matching
- Candidate MUST HAVE or be willing to learn: Certinia / FinancialForce
- Experience with other accounting/ERP systems (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Rootstock, Accounting Seed, etc.) welcomed
