Senior Purchasing Specialist
? Big Bend, WI (Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote after training)
Compensation: $80,000 to $90,000

About the Opportunity
Our client, a growing manufacturer in the food and ingredients space, is seeking a Senior Purchasing Specialist to support procurement and sourcing operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the timely and cost-effective supply of raw materials, packaging, and operational goods to support production and business growth.
This is a highly collaborative position, partnering with Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, R&D, and Finance teams to maintain strong supplier relationships, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement across procurement processes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

Source and procure raw materials, ingredients, and packaging components

Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supplier agreements to optimize cost and service levels

Identify and onboard new suppliers to strengthen supply chain resilience

Develop sourcing strategies for key categories
Supplier Management

Build and maintain strong supplier partnerships

Monitor supplier performance across quality, delivery, and cost metrics

Address supply disruptions, pricing changes, and quality concerns

Support supplier reviews and improvement initiatives
Inventory & Supply Planning

Partner with planning and operations teams to maintain optimal inventory levels

Align purchasing activity with demand forecasts and production schedules

Manage purchase orders and track deliveries to ensure on-time fulfillment
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work with Quality and Regulatory teams to ensure materials meet compliance standards

Support R&D with sourcing for new product development or alternative materials

Partner with Finance to track spend, variances, and cost-saving opportunities
Cost Optimization & Continuous Improvement

Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives through sourcing strategies and supplier consolidation

Analyze procurement data to improve efficiency and supplier performance

Contribute to broader supply chain improvement initiatives
Compliance & Documentation

Maintain accurate supplier documentation, specifications, and purchasing records

Ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements

Support supplier audits and qualification processes
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Food Science, or a related field

5–8+ years of purchasing or procurement experience, ideally within food manufacturing or ingredients

Experience sourcing raw materials, ingredients, or packaging

Strong negotiation and supplier management skills

Familiarity with contract management and cost analysis

Knowledge of food safety and regulatory standards is a plus

Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and purchasing tools

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
