This role will play a critical part in talent acquisition, onboarding, compliance, and day-to-day HR operations, ensuring a positive employee experience and adherence to nonprofit and employment regulations.
Human Resources Generalist Responsibilities:
- Partner with hiring managers to support full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, and offer preparation
- Manage applicant tracking system (ATS) and ensure a smooth, timely candidate experience
- Coordinate and facilitate onboarding for new hires, including orientation, documentation, and system setup
- Ensure new employees have a positive and engaging onboarding experience
- Maintain onboarding materials and continuously improve onboarding processes
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in HRIS systems
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as nonprofit-specific regulations
- Support audits, reporting, and documentation (e.g., I-9s, EEO reporting)
- Assist with policy updates and ensure proper documentation and communication
- Respond to employee inquiries related to HR policies, benefits, and procedures
- Support benefits administration, including enrollments and employee communications
- Provide general administrative support to the HR team as needed
Human Resources Generalist Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2–5+ years of HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
- Experience supporting recruitment and onboarding processes
- Strong understanding of HR compliance and employment laws
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
Pay: $30-43/hr
Location: Downtown Chicago, Hybrid, 4 days on-site + 1 day remote
