Position Summary

The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing category strategies that optimize cost, quality, and supplier performance across assigned healthcare-related spend categories, including capital equipment and capital projects. This role partners closely with clinical, operational, finance, and supply chain stakeholders to ensure sourcing and investment decisions support patient care, regulatory compliance, and organizational goals. Prior healthcare experience is required to effectively manage clinical needs, CapEx governance, and complex supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement category strategies aligned with organizational objectives, clinical requirements, regulatory standards, and capital planning priorities

  • Manage end-to-end category lifecycle for both operating expense (OpEx) and capital expenditure (CapEx) categories, including spend analysis, market assessment, sourcing events, contract negotiation, and supplier performance management

  • Lead sourcing and contracting for capital equipment, major medical devices, and capital projects, ensuring alignment with approved capital plans and budgets

  • Partner with clinical, facilities, IT, biomedical engineering, finance, and operations stakeholders to evaluate capital requests, develop business cases, and support capital approval processes

  • Lead RFPs, RFIs, and negotiations to achieve cost savings, favorable commercial terms, lifecycle cost optimization, and risk mitigation

  • Analyze total cost of ownership (TCO) for capital assets, including acquisition, maintenance, service, and replacement costs

  • Support value analysis and capital review committees by providing market intelligence, pricing benchmarks, and supplier recommendations

  • Manage supplier relationships for capital vendors, including performance reviews, service level compliance, and issue resolution

  • Ensure capital contracts comply with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and internal governance policies

  • Monitor market trends, supply risks, and innovation related to capital equipment and assigned healthcare categories

  • Track and report category performance, realized savings, avoided costs, and ROI on capital investments

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field

  • 3–7+ years of category management, strategic sourcing, or procurement experience in a healthcare environment, including CapEx

  • Demonstrated experience managing capital equipment sourcing and contracting

  • Strong understanding of healthcare capital planning, approval workflows, and financial evaluation methods

  • Proven negotiation, analytical, and strategic planning skills

  • Experience collaborating with clinical and technical stakeholders

  • Proficiency in spend analytics tools, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or similar)

  • Experience with large-scale capital projects, imaging equipment, OR equipment, or facility expansions

  • Familiarity with value analysis committees and capital governance structures

  • Certification such as CPSM, CMRP, or CSCP
