Our client, a growing real estate investment firm, is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Fund Accountant to support fund-level accounting and financial reporting for their expanding investment platform. In this role, you will partner closely with the Fund Accounting Manager/Controller and collaborate with asset management and investor relations to ensure accurate, timely reporting in accordance with GAAP. This position is ideal for a self-starter with strong real estate fund accounting experience, a hands-on mindset, and excellent attention to detail.
This role is downtown in the office 4x a week and budgeted up to a base of $95,000 with additional bonus eligibility. A comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical / dental / vision insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.
Senior Fund Accountant Responsibilities
- Support fund setup activities (new funds, entities, bank accounts, charts of accounts) and assist with transitions/onboarding as needed
- Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual fund financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Maintain the general ledger and perform recurring journal entries, accruals, and reclasses
- Complete cash, investment, and equity reconciliations, including investor capital activity and intercompany balances
- Assist with capital call and distribution calculations, notices, and related accounting entries
- Support NAV-related processes and fund close deliverables (as applicable)
- Perform budget-to-actual and variance analysis at the fund/entity level; provide clear explanations to leadership
- Review and support management fee, acquisition fee, asset management fee, and other fee calculations; initiate payments as needed
- Coordinate with third-party administrators (if applicable) and review deliverables for accuracy and completeness
- Support audit and tax processes by preparing schedules, PBC requests, and documentation
- Conduct accounting research and document conclusions for complex transactions
- Assist in developing and improving accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure deadlines are met
Senior Fund Accountant Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- Minimum of 4+ years of relevant accounting experience; fund accounting experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience in institutional real estate accounting (REPE, REIT, or real estate investment platforms preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with a fund accounting/ERP platform (examples: Investran, Yardi Investment Suite, eFront, or similar) is a plus
- Excellent time management, organizational, and analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
