This position plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and benefits administration requirements while continuously improving payroll and HR system processes.
Payroll & Benefits Manager Responsibilities:
- Manage full-cycle payroll processing across multiple legal entities and semi-monthly pay schedules.
- Ensure accurate onboarding of new hires and rehires across payroll, benefits, and retirement systems.
- Maintain compliance with I-9 verification and E-Verify requirements.
- Ensure proper worker classification in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Oversee payment of regular wages, bonuses, commissions, and other supplemental compensation.
- Ensure accurate tax withholdings, garnishments, third-party payments, and remittances.
- Coordinate year-end payroll activities, reconciliations, and statutory reporting.
- Serve as the primary administrator for payroll and timekeeping systems, ensuring accurate configuration and integration.
- Review and audit timecard data for accuracy, job coding, and overtime compliance.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll, benefits, and timekeeping processes and system efficiency.
- Track and administer leave programs including FMLA and state-specific family and medical leave requirements.
- Support annual benefits planning, renewals, and open enrollment execution.
- Provide guidance to employees regarding benefit enrollments, qualifying life events, and COBRA administration.
- Audit benefits invoices for accuracy and eligibility and coordinate timely vendor payments.
- Track benefit eligibility and enrollment changes across all programs.
- Manage employee and employer contribution tracking for retirement plans.
- Ensure timely upload of 401(k) contributions following each payroll cycle.
- Serve as the primary liaison for retirement plan audits, ensuring accurate and timely data submission.
Payroll & Benefits Manager Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in payroll and benefits administration.
- Working knowledge of benefits regulations and compliance requirements, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and applicable state laws.
- Familiarity with open enrollment processes, qualifying life events, and benefits eligibility rules.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll processing, tax compliance, garnishments, and wage regulations.
- Proficiency with payroll systems (Paylocity preferred) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex benefits information clearly.
- Customer-service oriented mindset with experience supporting employees at all levels.
This position requires on-site accessibility to the Tinley Park, IL headquarters. This position can pay up to $115,000 annually and offers comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, 401k.
