Happy 3rd Rebirthday, Mike!

Mike Heberlein 3rd RebirthdayHow old are you at LaSalle?

3!

What has been your professional progression at LaSalle?

I started as a Project Manager. I've also helped get the Research team up and running, and now I’m the Internal Recruiter!

What is your first memory of LaSalle?

My first memory is actually from before interviewing. I was on the phone with LaSalle's Team Lead of Technology Services, Paul Wallenberg, talking about my job hunt. I later went to dinner with a family friend... serendipity struck and it turned out I was dining with the brother of our Chief Revenue Officer, Maureen Hoersten! He said, “Do you want me to give her your resume? See where this goes?” The rest is history.

What is your favorite thing about working at LaSalle?

The people. I think a lot of people will say the same thing, so this may feel like a cop-out answer, but it’s true. I am surrounded by some of the most intelligent, driven, and caring people I have ever met.

What does LaSalle mean to you?

A lot. It’s a blank canvas. I have nowhere near the tenure of a lot of people who work here, yet I’ve seen so many iterations of LaSalle already. It’s a continuous reinvention or invention of things. When I make a decision and execute, I see my impact on this place and it’s equally terrifying and exhilarating that I can do that. And anyone can do the same. I’ve never operated in a place where it was not only accepted for people to make an impact, but it’s encouraged.

When a place like LaSalle lets you be a part of it, it kind of imprints on you; it becomes a part of you, too.

What has been your proudest moment at LaSalle?

It’s a three-way tie:

1. When we found out we hit our Q4 goal last year to go to South Beach
2. When the Research team reached 15 in headcount
3. When Tom asked me, “What do you think?” for the first time

What do you hope to conquer in the next 365 days?

I’m not hoping to “conquer” anything. I know we’ll increase headcount by 75% in 2016.

What does celebrating a rebirthday mean to you?

It means I’ve earned it. It means leadership thinks I can hang with the big dogs here. It also means that people have been putting up with my dad humor for another 365 days.

What has been the most unexpected thing about LaSalle?

The speed of our growth, as well as the two-handed grip we have kept on our core values, even as we grow.

What's your spirit animal?

A bear.

Anything else you want to share?

Do you ever have those existential moments where you’re more aware of being alive? LaSalle makes me feel like that pretty regularly. I’m conscious of my successes and my shortcomings, and I’m empowered to work on both. I get to work with brilliant people during a time of change in their lives (getting a new job) and also have the fortune of sitting next to them if they get hired here!
