Are you a coding expert specializing in surgical procedures? Our client is looking for a talented Surgical Coder to join our collaborative team. You will utilize your extensive knowledge of coding systems and surgical procedures to accurately translate complex medical information into standardized codes, working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Surgical Coder Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing surgical documentation, including operative reports, progress notes, and discharge summaries, to identify all procedures performed
  • Assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and CPT procedure codes, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations
  • Abstracting key information from medical records to support accurate coding and billing
  • Working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
  • Keeping up-to-date with coding updates and changes in regulations
  • Identifying and reporting coding errors or inconsistencies
  • Participating in coding audits and quality assurance activities
  • Maintaining a high level of coding accuracy and productivity
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Surgical Coder Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or relevant certification preferred
  • Current and active certification from AAPC (e.g., CPC, COC, CCS-P) or AHIMA (e.g., CCS)
  • Minimum of 1 year of proven surgical coding experience
  • Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Familiarity with surgical procedures across various specialties
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management software (specify software if applicable, e.g., Epic, Cerner, etc.)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively
