Job Title: Staff Accountant
Primary Responsibilities:

Monthly & Quarterly Close (30%)
Support timely and accurate financial statement close; ensure Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance; recommend control improvements. -
Reporting & Analysis (20%)
Prepare financial reports and variance analyses; identify data trends, root causes, and propose enhancements; reconcile accounts. -
Collaboration & Communication (15%)
Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues, support planning/forecasting, and present financial insights to leadership. -
Audit & Regulatory Support (15%)
Facilitate internal/external audits; respond to regulatory data requests, occasionally interfacing with external stakeholders. -
Process Improvements & Special Projects (20%)
Recommend and implement improvements and automation; participate in special projects tied to changing regulations or technologies.
Job Scope:

Conduct complex accounting tasks with judgment and minimal supervision

Act as a team contributor and cultural leader (Development, DEI, Innovation, Community Engagement)

Mentor junior team members and challenge existing processes for efficiency gains
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or equivalent)
-
2–4 years of relevant accounting experience
-
Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB, and SOX
-
Proven ability to prepare work papers, disclosures, and memos

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
-
Effective with process improvement and leveraging technology
-
Strong communication, project management, and leadership skills
-
High professionalism and ethical standards
Preferred Qualifications:
-
MBA with Accounting/Finance concentration
-
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
-
Public accounting experience
-
Utility or energy industry background (FERC/SEC/regulatory reporting)

Familiarity with AI and advanced analytical tools for accounting/finance
