Remote Mainframe Automation Engineer
LaSalle Network is partnered with an MSP outside of Chicago who is looking to add a Mainframe Automation Engineer to the team. As part of the Mainframe Automation Team, this role focuses on designing, optimizing, and implementing advanced automation solutions, specifically leveraging IBM System Automation (SA), Netview, and GDPS to enhance reliability and streamline operations across enterprise environments. This is a fully remote, contract-to-hire opportunity.
Key Areas of Focus
- Setting up and managing Netview and System Automation in a GDPS environment to ensure high availability and seamless system failover.
- Utilizing IBM System Automation to orchestrate automated operational processes across different platforms.
- Engineering robust automation solutions that integrate Netview for comprehensive system monitoring and event management.
- Designing solutions that reduce manual intervention by automating corrective actions based on alerts, enabling teams to concentrate on problem resolution and strategic improvements.
- Optimizing GDPS automation for disaster recovery and system resilience.
- Delivering automation solutions using Agile development methodologies to improve efficiency and adaptability.
- Evaluating and enhancing performance metrics of IBM automation tools to proactively detect issues before they impact system availability.
Required Qualifications
- Deep understanding and hands-on experience with IBM System Automation, Netview, and GDPS.
- Passion for automation and system resilience, focused on delivering a superior client experience through innovative technology.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a commitment to optimizing mainframe automation processes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work cross-functionally with teams on automation strategies.
Other Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in REXX and Assembler programming to develop automation scripts and integrate system components.
- Experience with Ansible framework and playbooks for automation deployment.
- Familiarity with GitHub, Jira, Bugzilla for version control and project tracking.
- In-depth knowledge of z/OS, MVS, and related mainframe subcomponents.
- Expertise in IT Service Management (ITSM), IT Operations Management (ITOM), and ITIL Framework.
- Strong grasp of DevOps and Agile principles, ensuring continuous improvement in automation processes.
