Job Description
Our client, a leading player in the distribution of education supplies, is hiring a key leadership role within their procurement department. If you bring previous experience within Strategic Sourcing for a variety of office supplies and materials, this may be the opportunity for you! As the Senior Category Manager - Supplies specializing in school supplies and accessories, you will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies to optimize the procurement process and ensure the availability of high-quality supplies for our organization. This role requires strong analytical, negotiation and leadership skills to drive cost savings, supplier relationship management and operational excellence.

Senior Category Manager - Supplies Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive sourcing strategies for school supplies and accessories, aligned with the organization's objectives, quality standards and budgetary requirements
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities and negotiate favorable terms and conditions to achieve cost savings and improved service levels
  • Lead supplier selection processes, including pre-qualification, Request for Proposal (RFP) development, bid evaluation and supplier negotiations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including stakeholders from various departments (e.g., education, administration), to understand their requirements and incorporate them into sourcing strategies
  • Evaluate supplier performance on an ongoing basis, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and service level expectations
  • Foster strong relationships with suppliers, conducting supplier audits, facilitating business reviews and resolving any issues or disputes that may arise
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, such as supplier consolidation, cost reduction programs and process optimization, to enhance operational efficiency and drive sustainable savings
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies and market dynamics related to school supplies and accessories, and leverage this knowledge to develop innovative sourcing strategies
  • Develop and maintain key metrics and reporting mechanisms to track savings, supplier performance and overall procurement effectiveness

Senior Category Manager - Supplies Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree is a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Strategic Sourcing Manager or similar role, specifically within the school supplies, office supplies, stationary, clothing, merchandise or education equipment is REQUIRED
  • In-depth knowledge of strategic sourcing methodologies, procurement best practices, and supplier management principles
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and develop actionable insights
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills, with a track record of achieving significant cost savings and driving supplier performance improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, stakeholders and internal teams
  • Proficiency in using procurement software and technology platforms
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive change initiatives
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Understanding of sustainability and ethical sourcing practices is desirable
