Our client in the beauty and cosmetics industry is in high-growth mode and is nearing $400M in revenue. Their products are loved by consumers and can be found in major salons and popular retailers such as Sephora, Target and Walmart. As they continue to scale, they are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Controller to join their team. This newly created role is crucial to support corporate accounting functions and drive financial strategy forward.

The Assistant Controller will play a key role in managing and executing financial operations, working closely with the C-Suite to understand year-over-year growth projections, implementing robust controls and overseeing the audit process. This individual will be hands-on in the monthly close process and manage a team of three direct reports. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, innovative company in the beauty industry. This role is budgeted for $130,000-150,000 base salary + 15% bonus eligibility and will work on Eastern Standard Time (9-5pm ET).

Assistant Controller Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Collaborate with the C-Suite on strategic financial planning, including analyzing and interpreting financial data to understand year-over-year growth projections
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies
  • Manage and coordinate the annual audit process with external auditors
  • Supervise, mentor and develop a team of three direct reports, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability
  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements and reports
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
  • Provide insights and recommendations for financial performance improvement and operational efficiencies
  • Utilize NetSuite ERP system for accounting operations and leverage its functionalities for reporting and analysis
  • Work autonomously while being forward-thinking in identifying opportunities for process enhancements and cost savings

Assistant Controller Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in public accounting or corporate accounting, specifically within a product-based or consumer packaged goods (CPG) environment
  • Prior experience in managing and developing a team
  • Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems is a plus
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a remote work environment
  • Forward-thinking mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and innovation
