Patient Access Specialist Responsibilities:
- Greeting and assisting patients in a courteous and professional manner
- Verifying patient demographics, insurance information, and other necessary data
- Registering new patients and updating existing patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system
- Scheduling appointments, managing cancellations, and confirming upcoming appointments
- Collecting patient payments and processing co-pays
- Answering patient inquiries regarding services, billing, and other related information
- Obtaining necessary authorizations and referrals
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth patient flow
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Patient Access Specialist Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1+ year of recent experience or demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management software (specify software if applicable, e.g., Epic, Cerner, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of insurance verification and prior authorization processes is a plus
