Non-Profit Controller Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive financial policies and procedures.
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, FASB, IRS regulations).
- Manage the budgeting process, including forecasting revenue and expenses.
- Monitor financial performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Supervise the accounting team and ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports for management and board of directors.
- Manage accounts receivable and payable.
- Oversee payroll processing and compliance with tax regulations.
- Manage grant accounting and reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with donor restrictions and reporting guidelines.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks.
- Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop and implement financial strategies.
- Provide financial analysis and advice to support decision-making.
Non-Profit Controller Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA certification preferred
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a non-profit organization
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting and non-profit compliance
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
