LaSalle Network has partnered with a leading law firm in the Chicagoland area specializing in Insurance and Intellectual Property Litigation in search of a Legal Billing Specialist. The ideal candidate will possess strong billing and accounting skills, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency. The Legal Billing Specialist will be responsible for managing all aspects of the billing process, including invoicing clients, managing accounts payable and receivable, journal entries and maintaining financial records. This role requires familiarity with various e-billing systems and a thorough understanding of legal billing practices.

As a Legal Billing Specialist, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our client’s billing processes. Your meticulous attention to detail and expertise in legal billing will directly contribute to the financial success and reputation for our client.

Legal Billing Specialist Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and distribute client invoices accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with client guidelines and legal regulations
  • Manage the firm's accounts payable and receivable processes, including processing payments, reconciling accounts and resolving discrepancies
  • Record financial transactions and journal entries accurately to maintain the integrity of the firm's financial records
  • Utilize various e-billing systems to submit invoices and track billing status for different clients. Familiarity with multiple e-billing platforms is essential
  • Collaborate with attorneys to review prebills, make necessary adjustments and ensure accuracy before finalizing invoices
  • Communicate effectively with attorneys regarding billing matters, including addressing inquiries, providing billing summaries and facilitating the billing process
  • Prepare and finalize client invoices, utilizing both PDF formats and specific e-billing systems based on client requirements
  • Maintain the accounts receivable ledger, monitor outstanding invoices and follow up on overdue payments as needed
  • Assist in maintaining the general ledger by posting journal entries, reconciling accounts and generating financial reports
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of client billing information, rates and terms in the firm's registrar
  • Process client bill backs accurately, documenting expenses and ensuring compliance with client agreements

Legal Billing Specialist Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
  • Previous experience in legal billing at a law firm or professional services environment
  • Proficiency in e-billing systems and software, with the ability to adapt to new platforms
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys, clients and internal stakeholders
  • Familiarity with AP/AR processes and general ledger accounting
