Our client, a 1,000+ employee machinery manufacturing company, is hiring a Labor Relations Specialist to join their on-site team in Grand Rapids, MI! This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with the HR Director and play a strategic role in fostering effective labor relations in a unionized environment. You will work closely with Operations Management and act as the key point of contact for all union-related matters, supporting 180 union employees. Labor Relations Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead the union grievance process, serving as the primary point of contact for 180 union employees
  • Act as the company's representative in contract negotiations, ensuring compliance with labor agreements and driving resolutions
  • Work closely with union representatives to address and resolve labor disputes
  • Interpret, implement and ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements
  • Provide guidance and education to management on union-related issues, employee relations and contract interpretation
  • Support arbitration cases, ensuring proper documentation and legal compliance
  • Partner with the HR Director to manage labor relations strategies and foster positive working relationships with union leaders
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state and local labor laws
  • Maintain records of all union-related interactions and grievances

Labor Relations Specialist Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in labor relations or a unionized work environment
  • Strong experience in grievance resolution, contract negotiations and union contract administration
  • Deep understanding of collective bargaining agreements, labor laws and regulations
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems; experience with SAP Success Factors and ADP Time & Attendance preferred
