HR Generalist – Onsite | Chicago, IL
We are partnering with a well-established creative production company in Chicago to identify an HR Generalist who can provide day-to-day HR support while driving compliance, onboarding, and union workforce coordination. This is a full-time, onsite position (5 days/week) offering the opportunity to make an immediate impact while being trained directly by an experienced HR and finance executive.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on generalist who understands how to navigate labor agreements, communicate effectively across departments, and support both shop floor and office teams. Union experience is highly preferred, but we're open to HR professionals who understand the importance of working within the boundaries of a labor contract and are eager to learn.
HR Generalist Responsibilities:
-
Oversee full-cycle onboarding and offboarding for both union and non-union employees
-
Process and track hall referrals, ensuring all new hires are properly classified and documented in alignment with union contracts
-
Serve as a resource for frontline leaders, answering questions related to pay rates, classifications, job starts, and compliance with labor agreements
-
Support HR compliance, including adherence to safety protocols, labor law postings, and employee file maintenance
-
Assist in implementing and documenting HR policies and procedures with oversight from senior leadership
-
Partner with operations to ensure clear communication on employee status, compensation structures, and contract terms
-
Collaborate cross-functionally with AP, payroll, and finance teams to keep HR records aligned, without processing payroll directly
-
Help ensure smooth transitions during leadership absences and support HR projects as needed
-
Receive one-on-one training on Great Plains HR functions to effectively support HR reporting and tracking
What We’re Looking For:
-
3–5 years of HR Generalist experience; union environment experience strongly preferred
-
Comfortable working in a fully onsite role, 40+ hours per week
-
Knowledge of labor laws, onboarding processes, and employee documentation best practices
-
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with shop staff, union reps, and management
-
Detail-oriented with a willingness to support both strategic initiatives and administrative tasks
-
Familiarity with Great Plains is a plus, but not required—training will be provided
This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic, hands-on team where your role will be both essential and visible. If you’re ready to take ownership, learn from a tenured executive, and grow within a high-touch HR environment—we want to hear from you.
Best,
Lindi Presta
Project Manager
