Our client is a leading manufacturer of consumer goods serving a diverse range of industries. The Director of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership and oversight for the manufacturing facility in the western suburbs of Chicago, as well as contribute to broader organizational financial strategy. This role will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic, results-oriented leader with exceptional analytical, communication, and team management skills.

Director of Finance Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to the manufacturing facility and contribute to overall company financial strategy
  • Oversee and direct the annual budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with department heads and executive leadership to develop comprehensive and achievable financial plans aligned with strategic objectives
  • Direct the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis, commentary, and insightful business recommendations to senior management and executive leadership
  • Oversee and ensure the integrity of cost accounting activities, ensuring accurate tracking, analysis, and optimization of manufacturing costs, including direct materials, labor, and overhead
  • Lead financial analysis initiatives to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential risks, providing strategic recommendations to executive leadership to drive profitability and growth
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and other relevant accounting regulations
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with all relevant accounting and regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX if applicable)
  • Lead the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and control
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments, such as operations, sales, purchasing, and executive leadership, to achieve company objectives and drive cross-functional alignment
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team, including hiring, training, performance management, and career development
  • Oversee relationships with external auditors, banks, and other financial institutions

Director of Finance Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA required
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment
  • Expert knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices
  • Proven expertise in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
  • Extensive experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) is required
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, vlookups, macros, financial modeling) are essential
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, communication (both written and verbal), and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen
