Job Description

LaSalle Network’s client, a natural haircare and beauty brand focused on providing innovative, natural products for the textured hair category and historically underserved customers, is looking for a Director, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A). Founded in 2014, this business' mission is to educate, empower, and excite its customers and the broader community.

The Director, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) will plan, develop, and prepare meaningful, timely, and accurate analysis of critical financial information and metrics for use in management’s evaluation of results and determination of strategic and business objectives and alternatives. This role will lead the forecasting and annual business planning and budgeting process, work collaboratively with other functional leadership in promoting a positive team culture and approach, and design, build and continually improve FP&A capabilities, processes and robust planning and analysis tools.

Director, FP&A Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the financial forecast and planning calendar
  • Facilitate the company-wide 3-statement annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes including development of the methodology and tools and review/analysis of budget/forecast submissions
  • Prepare, deliver, and present monthly & quarterly management reporting, analyze financial results, assess risks and opportunities, and communicate key messages to various stakeholders
  • Prepare the monthly analysis of operating results for inclusion in the management reporting package
  • Design and refine detailed financial models that forecast and analyze functional costs to fully understand sources of variances and to improve forecast accuracy
  • Participate in and review period-end close activities to ensure completion of assigned tasks, including identification and resolution of unusual items and issues
  • Enhance the credibility of the finance and accounting organization by providing timely and accurate analysis of results and trends
  • Prepare, update, and deliver the company’s 13-week cash flow forecast, including analyzing and tracking variances to improve accuracy going forward
  • Prepare, update, and deliver the company’s working capital dashboard and reporting of results in comparison with approved metrics and targets
  • Develop and maintain tracking for the company’s bonus incentive program, and provide updates on a predetermined cadence
  • Lender reporting and covenant compliance
  • Lead efforts to identify, establish, and report performance measures consistent with overall company objectives
  • Determine critical benchmarking criteria and develop the process and reporting to compare results with other relevant companies
  • Build and continuously improve the company’s capabilities in analyzing its revenue and cost drivers, budgets and forecasting, and cash flow and working capital requirements and demands
  • Telling the story: develop techniques to tell help explain and to simplify the key message and supporting analysis
  • Oversee FP&A systems and tools; build and maintain the tools and processes to provide performance measurement and reporting to the management team
  • Rationalize the use of existing tools in connection with management objectives and needs
  • Educate other functional leaders and management on the use and capability of the analysis tools
  • Provide a quality assurance process to ensure the integrity and accuracy of analytical tools
  • Continuously improve processes to simplify, automate, and expedite the collection and presentation of data
  • Data is an asset: continually test the accuracy of source data, and improve processes to simplify, automate, and expedite the collection thereof; ensure that data is actively managed so trusted data is accessible to all at minimal effort as the “single source of truth”
  • Maintain the company’s financial reporting environment including chart of accounts, data integration, reporting trees, and reports
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance the company’s finance systems and tools to increase the quality and timeliness of management information
  • Perform other ad hoc analyses or duties as assigned by the CFO
  • Work with IT personnel in developing and optimizing information systems and appropriately leveraging technology in a cost-justified manner

Director, FP&A Requirements:

  • A mixture of experience working in startups / fast-paced environments as well as larger, corporate environments; particularly interest in or knowledge of developing processes and procedures from the ground up
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field
  • Master’s degree in business is a plus
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in FP&A
  • Knowledge of business operations, preferably in the in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry
  • Be modest in nature, recognizing the accomplishments of the team before the individual
  • Be patient and solution-driven, willing to take the time to explain and bring others along
  • Be highly motivated and possess vision and enthusiasm
  • Be comfortable acting as an individual contributor and as a team manager (Player/Coach)
  • A record of serving as a business partner in helping to influence key business decisions and track performance against key objectives
  • Understand how to deliver on short time frames and be committed to meeting deadlines “no matter what”
  • Communicate in an open and honest way that quickly builds trust and respect
  • Be comfortable on his/her/their feet making presentations
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
  • Attention to detail, basis towards action and unwavering ethical standards
