Job Description

Our client in the northwest suburbs is looking for a Controller to join a growing team. This is a temp-to-hire position with a company that boasts a collaborative environment for a team of up to 10 individuals. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills and leadership experience. A great opportunity for the ideal candidate looking to grow!

Controller Responsibilities:

  • Manage all accounting functions including but not limited to monthly close of the general ledger, producing monthly financial statements, key financial reports and analysis, corporate audits, tax reporting, project cost accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll
  • Manage and oversee the reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses in accordance with applicable governmental laws, ordinances, policies and regulations
  • Follow established accounting procedures to process complex accounting transactions such as GL journal entries and fixed asset accounting
  • Review contracts and related documentation to ensure accurate and consistent invoicing
  • Manage annual budgeting process, including preparation of work papers and system loading
  • Manage preparation of monthly financial performance reports for the Operating Groups and Corporate
  • Manage and organize work papers and other documents required for annual financial audits and tax reporting
  • Establish expectations, provide feedback and directly supervise the Accounting department staff
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures of accounting systems, budgeting and financial report preparation
  • Communicate with and earn respect of internal and external clients and vendors in order to effectively provide and obtain needed financial information
  • Produce routine and ad hoc accounting reports using standard and non-standard criteria
  • Review complex data for exceptions, errors and omissions; follow up to correct as needed
  • Monitor and revise work system and job processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency
  • Review, recommend and implement changes to improve use and utility of financial systems
  • Direct work of outside consultants when needed for financial system improvements
  • Maintain ethical standards and use sound judgment to benefit internal and external customers
  • Make recommendations to CFO on financial, accounting, tax and audit matters

Controller Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with CPA (preferred)
  • 8+ years of accounting experience
  • Experience managing a staff
  • Experience working in a professional services company and serving as strategic partner to operations teams
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite and Deltek Vision/Vantage Point is a plus
