Job Description

Our client is a leading general contractor dedicated to delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget. With a strong commitment to excellence, they have built a reputation for innovation, integrity and professionalism in the construction industry.

As a Construction Project Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial success of construction projects. You will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of assigned projects, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking and financial reporting. This role requires a keen eye for detail, excellent analytical skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams and external stakeholders.

Construction Project Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Develop and monitor project budgets in collaboration with project managers and estimators
  • Provide accurate and timely cost estimates for potential projects
  • Forecast financial performance throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitor project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses
  • Analyze cost variances and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Ensure compliance with budgetary constraints
  • Prepare and distribute regular financial reports, including profit and loss statements, cash flow projections, and cost-to-complete analyses
  • Consolidate financial data from various sources and present it in a clear, concise manner
  • Generate and review invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contract terms
  • Recognize revenue in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and industry standards
  • Review and interpret project contracts to ensure adherence to financial terms and conditions
  • Identify and address any discrepancies or potential risks
  • Monitor project cash flows and coordinate with the finance team to ensure adequate funding for ongoing operations
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable related to construction projects
  • Evaluate and process change orders, tracking their impact on project costs and revenues
  • Communicate changes to relevant stakeholders and update financial records accordingly

Construction Project Accountant Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field is preferred but not required
  • Previous experience in construction accounting or project accounting highly desirable
  • Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Procore, Sage, Viewpoint) and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
