Job Description

Our partner, a private equity backed, midsized Phoenix area services company, is looking for a new Accounting Manager to help manage and develop a strong accounting team and drive excellence in accounting processes and procedures. If you are an experienced accounting leader with public accounting practice, looking for an opportunity to build out an accounting practice and lay solid foundations for a company going forward, we want to hear from you! 


The Accounting Manager will lead the accounting team in the functional areas of general ledger, consolidated financial statements, cash flow statements, intercompany eliminations, foreign compliance and taxes, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, payroll revenue recognition and accounting, account reconciliations, cash disbursements, cash receipts, payroll processing, fixed asset accounting and annual audits. The Accounting Manager will advise and make recommended improvements and/or upgrades of the accounting information systems and internal controls. 


Accounting Manager Responsibilities:  

  • Timely month-end close of corporate related general ledger accounts including journal entries (recurring, ad hoc and accrual) to ensure proper recording of cash, prepaid accounts, fixed assets, depreciation and amortization, as well as other asset and liability accounts 

  • Prepare detailed reconciliations and account analysis for all assigned corporate account balances on a month-end and/or term-end basis 

  • Prepare monthly capitalization entries for all CIP projects involving in-house labor including balancing all projects to the general ledger monthly and preparing selected reconciliations for tax R&D submission at year-end 

  • Ensure balance of all intercompany accounts on a monthly basis 

  • Record all investment entries and reconcile to the general ledger monthly 

  • Run monthly AR reports, post AR entries to GL, revenue recognition and reconciliation of AR and revenue subsidiary ledger to GL 

  • Ensure timely and accurate daily revenue system integrations 

  • Manage the student account charge list with focus on Direct Bill students 

  • Build and maintain student account profiles for “Custom Program” students based on specifications provided by the Custom Programs staff and the AR Specialist 

  • Research and follow through regarding any anomalous bank transactions posted through the payment processor payment portal 

  • Complete annual fixed asset roll-forward for all sites 

  • Drive annual audit and other compliance requirements as required 

  • Ability to work with CPA firm to analyze taxation requirements 

  • Collaborate with functional department managers to provide accurate, timely and relevant information for monthly variance analysis and management reporting 

  • Improve and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, GAAP and other regulatory requirements 

  • Support companies’ informational and process improvement needs with a focus on accuracy, timeliness and relevance, while minimizing Operational impact 

  • Other miscellaneous duties, as may be assigned from time to time 

  • Key member of team for Student Information System (SIS) Implementation 

  • Supervise payroll processing (ADP) 

  • Supervise reconciliation of credit card receipts 


Accounting Manager Requirements: 

  • 7+ years of general ledger accounting experience in a senior capacity 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting 

  • Demonstrated management skills 

  • Demonstrated general ledger and account reconciliation experience 

  • Strong PC skills including intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft products 

  • Uses time effectively and efficiently 

  • Excellent oral and written communication 

  • Accuracy with ability to consistently hit deadlines 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and relate effectively, productively and positively with team, vendors and guests 

  • Take charge and lead by example type of mindset 

  • Internal customer service mindset 

  • Operate in a collaborative fast paced team environment 

  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and ability to learn industry specific platforms and systems 

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP preferred 

  • Experience with SAP Concur, ADP preferred
