What is the protocol after the interview? Get your answers here
  • Send a Thank You Note – Sending a handwritten thank you note is a must
    • If your handwriting is chicken scratch, type a letter
    • Thank the employer for taking the time to meet with you
    • Reiterate your interest in the position and excitement in hearing back
    • Show you are a good fit for the position
    • Show how your skills can benefit the company. The employer will not always remember what you said, so use this as another, final opportunity to prove yourself
  • Thank You E-mails Are Okay Too – These should rarely replace thank you notes
    • If the person you interviewed with travels regularly, just e-mail
    • Keep e-mails short and to the point
    • Reinforce key points you made during the interview
    • Follow up on any loose ends, i.e. next steps
  • Follow Up – Not too soon or too late
    • If the employer says he or she will get back to you in a week, don’t call before then
    • If it is after the time you were supposed to find out, it is okay to check in and reiterate your interest. Just make sure you aren’t annoying
